Watch:Yere - Episode 3: Intel MTV Sound Trippin

Get Sound Trippin on: http://www.mtvindia.com/soundtrippin

For this episode, Sneha visits the Siddi community, also known as the Habshi community of Karnataka. Legend has it that these particular Siddis are descended from Mozambican and Ethiopian slaves, brought to India by the Portugese. During the 'Goan Inquisition' they were either freed or escaped from their Portugese rulers ships. This uniquely Afro-Indian community is spread along the Gujarat-Karnataka belt to the west of India.

The Siddis still retain some cultural traits of their African roots. Their music is heavily percussive and is influenced by a wide array of cultures, religions and regions. Yet, at the core of everything, they are Indian, speaking its languages, influencing it culture and adding a fresh perspective to the idea of a multicultural society within this country. It is this uniquely Indian, yet inherently foreign sounds, that Sneha went in search of.

Catch this episode on 28th April, 8:30 PM only on MTV.
